De Kleine Duiker
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
- Food forest
De Kleine Duiker is a recreation farm run as a foundation on the edge of Barendrecht, where volunteers and care clients of Humanitas keep a vegetable garden and a young food forest alongside the animals kept for visitors.
The vegetables from the garden (the Duikerstuin) are grown without spraying: the ground is ploughed and hoed by hand, and what is harvested is sold from the farm's food truck or cooked into the dishes served there. In summer 2026 that meant courgettes raised from plants their website describes as organic, green beans and honey from the farm's own beekeeper.
Vegetables are sold from the garden on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to 13:00 during the growing season. From April to September there is also a regional market on the farm on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:00 to 16:00, with produce from the farm itself and from other farmers in the region, whom we haven't judged; the food forest has its own stall there with produce harvested from the garden and the surrounding Zuidpolder. Volunteers who want to help in the food forest can email the farm.
The food forest is planted to feed itself without fertiliser or pest control, with apple and pear alongside quince, mulberry, pawpaw, sea kale and Jerusalem artichoke.
