Vossenburg is an arable farm in the Buijtenland van Rhoon that keeps laying hens in a mobile hen house and sells its eggs, potatoes and vegetables from a self-service farm shop.
The 250 hens live in a hen caravan that is moved a few metres at a time and taken to a fresh plot once they have pecked the ground bare; at ten each morning the hatches open and the hens range out over the polder. Under the national bird-flu housing order, the hens have been kept indoors since October 2025. The shop sells the farm's own Frieslander, Bildstar and Innovator potatoes, onions and sweetcorn in season, and from mid-July a short line of Vita Bella potatoes, red onions, carrots, beetroot and pumpkins that their website describes as organic, grown on land converted under a separate company, Vossenburg bio VOF. A small herd of Lakenvelder cattle grazes for nature management, with the calves staying with their mothers; whether the beef is sold to the public is not yet confirmed.
The shop is open seven days a week from 6:00 to 22:00. The eggs are also sold at Gert van Herk's vegetable stall on the Rotterdamse Oogstmarkt (Noordplein, Saturdays 10:00 to 17:00), at Boon's markt in Rhoon and at Zorgboerderij De Buytenhof.
The organic plots first spent two years under grass-clover fertilised with organic goat manure, and part of that land has become field margins, herb strips and nature-friendly banks.
