Melkgeitenhouderij Zuylestein is an organic dairy goat farm on the Zuylestein estate in Leersum that sells its own goat cheese and goat meat from a self-service farm shop.
In summer the goats graze the meadows around the farm, and in winter they live in groups on straw in a barn with daylight and 1.5 square metres each. They always have unlimited roughage, organically grown grass and maize, and concentrate makes up no more than 40 percent of the ration. The milk goes to a cheesemaker nearby, who makes it into organic goat cheese for the farm. Most of the billy kids born on the farm are kept and raised for meat, sold frozen as neck and leg on the bone, shank, stewing meat, mince and chops; whether the billies go outside, we couldn't confirm. The farm is certified organic (SKAL, NL-BIO-01.528-0003441.2026.002), and we found it in the register.
The shop, De Geitenkeet, is open every day from 8:00 to 21:00 and also stocks organic eggs and regional products; the meat is sold only there, while the cheese can also be ordered from the webshop. Tours of the farm can be booked, but the yard and barns are otherwise closed to the public.
They do most of the fieldwork themselves, and every harvest from their land is tested in a laboratory for protein and minerals before it goes into the goats' ration.
