oogsttuin Element
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Oogsttuin Element is a market garden between Lent and Bemmel where one grower raises more than 60 kinds of vegetables and at least 15 herbs in open ground for a weekly subscription box.
The soil is worked by hand, a tractor comes by only once a year, and the vegetables are not sprayed (onbespoten). Their website describes the vegetables as biologisch; the garden holds no organic certificate, and what qualifies it here is the hand-worked, unsprayed growing itself.
Joining means taking out a subscription that runs from your first box to the last one before Christmas, which in 2026 is Friday 18 December. A box usually holds five different vegetables with a bunch of herbs and a recipe, enough for two people to eat from four or five times, and there is a larger size for bigger eaters. The boxes are ready to collect every Friday from 14:00 at Duitslandstraat 4a in Lent, from mid-May until Christmas. You can try a subscription for four weeks before deciding, and if you want to stop early you hand your box over to someone on the waiting list. The grower's aim is for the garden to become a zelfoogsttuin (harvest-it-yourself garden) in time.
The manure for the beds comes from the straw-bedded barn of black-and-white cows kept nearby.
