Over-Amstel Boerderij is a farm on the Amstel in the Duivendrechtse polder near Ouderkerk, with its own cheese dairy, kitchen garden, farm shop and restaurant, and it can only be reached on foot, by bike or by boat.
The cows are Maas-Rijn-IJssel (MRIJ), an old Dutch dual-purpose breed, and their milk is the basis of the farm's cheeses: young and mature belegen cheese, a grilling cheese and fiore di latte, all made in the cheese dairy you can see into from the shop. Their website says MRIJ cows keep their condition without concentrate feed. The pigs are Dutch Landvarken, a slow-growing, rare heritage breed, kept with room to root, wallow and lie in the sun; they go to a small slaughterhouse and the meat is used in the restaurant and the shop, though whether pork is on sale in the shop is not yet confirmed. Bread, croissants, quiches, mustard and sauerkraut are made in-house, and the shop also stocks honey from beekeepers along the Amstel, eggs from another farm and meat from Wild van Wild.
The farm shop is open Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00 and takes card or the farm's gift card only, no cash.
The pigs are fed largely on leftovers from the kitchen garden, the cheese dairy, the restaurant and the shop's bread.
