Pluimveebedrijf van Dam
- Pigs and poultry live free range: outdoors on pasture, in woodland or a run
Pluimveebedrijf van Dam is a poultry farm on the Tolsestraat in Opheusden, which we take to be the Opheusden hen farm behind the Appeltje Eitje shops; that link, and the egg vending machine at the farm, come from map listings and aren't yet confirmed by the farm.
According to the Appeltje Eitje website, their hens are kept in two flocks, all white: a barn flock (scharrel) with a covered outdoor run, and a free-range flock that really goes outside as well as indoors. Both are given conventional feed, and the free-range eggs are the ones that meet our bar. Apples and pears also come from the owners' farms in Dodewaard and Opheusden, not yet confirmed as grown at this address.
We don't yet know which eggs are sold at the farm itself. The same eggs are sold day-fresh in six unmanned Appeltje Eitje shops in Arnhem, Beuningen, Ede, Lent, Nijmegen and Renkum, open every day from 7:00 to 21:30.
Because the eggs go straight from the farm to the shops, they keep for at least 28 days.
