Tuinderij Amelis’Hof
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Tuinderij Amelis'Hof is a biodynamic market garden of about one hectare in an 18th-century walled kitchen garden on the Amelisweerd estate east of Utrecht, where a grower couple and twenty to thirty volunteers have grown vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers since 1984.
They grow around 60 vegetables, 25 herbs, soft fruit and more than 150 kinds of flowers, including old vegetables such as perennial leek, Swiss chard (warmoes), parsnip and Jerusalem artichoke. The garden is certified organic (SKAL) and Demeter-certified (NL-139810); we found both in the registers. Now and then the shop also has eggs from their own Uilebaard hens, a rare breed once kept by the nobility, alongside apple juice from estate orchards and local honey.
The garden shop and pick-your-own flower garden are open from late April to the end of October on Wednesdays from 11:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00. The weekly vegetable bag runs from May to Christmas, in a small or large size, and is collected on Wednesday afternoons or evenings at the garden or at pickup points in Bunnik and Utrecht; in 2026 there is a waiting list.
About 100 subscribers share the harvest and the risk with the growers, so if hail ruins the lettuce, the bags go without rather than being topped up from a wholesaler.
