Verdandi
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Verdandi is a small care community on De Groote Modderkolk, an open farmyard near Loenen that it shares with Natuurmonumenten and Herenboeren, where eleven adults with an intellectual disability live and work alongside their support staff.
Residents grow vegetables, herbs and flowers in the kitchen garden beside the farmhouse, and the farm shop (landwinkel) sells those vegetables together with products the community makes and regional products from elsewhere. Natuurmonumenten describes the garden as worked by organic methods (op biologische wijze), although Verdandi holds no organic certificate. Residents also help care for the sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, horses and Brandrode cattle on the yard, but no meat or eggs are stated as sold in the shop.
The shop and the tea room next to it are open Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 to 16:00, Friday from 10:00 to 12:00 and Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00. The tea room has a terrace in the orchard and serves cake and apple pie from the community's own bakery in Loenen.
Working in the garden, the tea room and the bakery is the residents' daily job, which the organisation deliberately calls work rather than day activities.
