Biologische boerderijwinkel De Nieuwenburgt
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
- Nature-inclusive farming
De Nieuwenburgt is a mixed organic farm at Kappersweg 5 in Spankeren, where more than 70 Jersey cows and 50 young animals are kept and the farm shop sells their raw milk, cheese and beef alongside the farm's own flour and rye bread.
The milk is raw Jersey milk, sold into a bottle you bring or buy, and the herd has been bred since 2016 for the A2A2 gene, now certified, so the milk contains only A2 beta-casein. Aurora cheese is made from the same milk. The beef is from the farm's own Jerseys, including shin (schenkel) for stock. The cows graze herb-rich meadows on the Gelderse Toren estate and the bulls graze nature reserves for Natuurmonumenten; what they eat in winter is not stated. The farm also grows grain and sells flour from its own harvest and rye bread baked from its own rye. Lamb, pork, chicken, eggs, vegetables and bakers' bread are also sold but come from suppliers it doesn't name, so we haven't judged them. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found the certificate at this address.
The shop is open Fridays from 14:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00. Webshop orders are delivered to the door on Thursday evenings within 30 km of Spankeren.
The rye bread came out of a Natuurmonumenten trial growing grain for local sale on reserve land being stripped of surplus nutrients with legume crops.
