De Breedijk Hoeve is an organic care farm with 100 hectares of grassland in the peat meadows of Landelijk Noord, the rural part of Amsterdam-Noord, selling beef from its own cows and jam from its own fruit.
The herd is a mix of Lakenvelder, Limousin and pied (Bonte) cattle. The calves stay with their mothers for at least six months and drink her milk, each cow calves at most once a year, and the cattle spend as much time as possible outside, grazing the farm's own nature land and land belonging to Staatsbosbeheer. Their website says all the cows eat only grass, no pesticides are used and antibiotics are rarely needed. The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. The beef is sold by the cut, from steaks and picanha to stewing meat and mince, and the list includes marrow bones, shin on the bone, oxtail, liver, heart and tongue. The jam is made from the farm's own currants, raspberries, gooseberries, plums and strawberries, with a little sugar and apple pectin.
You can come for meat or jam Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 15:00, or phone to order for collection, and empty jam jars can be brought back for reuse.
The farm manages its meadows for meadow birds together with the nature association Water, Land en Dijken.
