De Lijsterbes is an organic market garden of 3.5 hectares at Grafwegen in Groesbeek Breedeweg, run for about thirty years by two growers and their team, which grows vegetables for around 650 weekly boxes delivered in and around Nijmegen.
The boxes hold whatever is in season on their own land; in October 2026 that meant potatoes, cauliflower or broccoli, leek, rocket, spinach and lamb's lettuce. In late winter and early spring, and after a failed crop in summer, vegetables are bought in from fellow organic growers, as far as possible Dutch ones, so that the box stays varied. Everything they deliver or buy in is certified organic, and the garden itself is certified organic (SKAL 006302), which we found in the register.
The vegetables go out as a weekly box in five sizes, delivered by electric van to the door in Nijmegen, Groesbeek, Malden, Mook, Beek-Ubbergen and nine other villages, with pickup points in the places the vans cannot reach. A subscription starts with four paid trial weeks, the box comes in a reusable bag against a deposit, and there is no notice period; in 2026, though, the garden is closed to new subscribers and keeps no waiting list.
The stop is a choice rather than a shortage: their website says they do not want the business to grow any further than its roughly 650 boxes a week.
