Tuinderij Steef & Eef
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
- Agroecological farming
Tuinderij Steef & Eef is an agro-ecological market garden on the Gooyerdijk in Leersum, started in 2020, where about 100 kinds of unsprayed field vegetables, herbs, soft fruit and nuts are grown year-round and part of the harvest is dried, pickled, frozen or made into jam.
According to their website the beds are fed with the farm's own manure plus bought-in organic compost, with no synthetic fertiliser or chemical pesticides. Pigs turn pasture into bare soil first; after that the ground is only worked at the surface, with a broadfork for everything but root crops so the soil is not inverted. Seed and plant stock are bought almost entirely organic or biodynamic. The garden holds no SKAL certificate and we found none in the register; what qualifies it here is the growing itself. Pork from Buitengewone Varkens is sold too; whether their own pigs and hens supply meat or eggs we couldn't confirm.
Since 2025 everything is sold to order: you order in the webshop and collect from the farm shop Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 or Saturday 10:00 to 14:00. Vegetable bags in three sizes are ordered week by week without a subscription. Delivery runs to Maarn, Cothen, Wijk bij Duurstede, Doorn and Amerongen above a minimum order, and in season a free fortnightly round covers Maarn and Maarsbergen.
Two hectares of the land are botanical hay meadow being deliberately impoverished so more plant species can come in.
