Heerlijckheid Het Vormer
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Het Vormer is a market garden with a self-service farm shop on the Vormerseweg in Wijchen, growing around 80 kinds of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers.
Their website calls the shop ecological and organic (biologisch). Het Vormer holds no organic certificate; what qualifies it here is the growing itself, without pesticides or synthetic fertiliser and with attention to soil quality and water use. Much of what is in the shop comes from their own garden, along with home-made jam, pickles, sauce and soup. The rest comes from other growers they name, such as Dutch pears, apples, sweet potatoes, potatoes and onions, plus bread mix from the Wijchen mill. Eggs are sold too, not yet confirmed.
The shop is open every day from 8:00 to 22:00 and takes cash only, with fresh vegetables from March to December. You can also become an Oogstgenoot (harvest member): the growers draw up the planting plan, prepare the ground, sow and tend the crops, and members harvest vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers for their own use through the season from March to December, with winter vegetables running on after that. Helping on the land is welcome but not required.
