Kleur en Smaak
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Kleur & Smaak is a certified organic market garden on the Hogeveenseweg in Nootdorp, where two growers raise vegetables and fruit in an unheated greenhouse and in the open field and sell them from their barn shop.
In early spring the greenhouse gives cauliflower and leafy greens, and later in the season beans, cucumbers, courgettes, garlic, tomatoes, beetroot, melons, peppers, aubergines and chillies. Everything grows in the soil, without artificial fertiliser or chemical pesticides: only plant-based fertilisers are used, and thrips, aphids and spider mites are kept down with natural enemies such as parasitic wasps, predatory bugs and ladybirds. The garden is certified organic (SKAL, NL-BIO-01.528-0004746.2026.002); we found it in the register. Surplus tomatoes become tomato sauce, and they also make sambal from their own chillies, beetroot chutney and pickled cucumbers. Their 23 hens live in a fenced-off part of the greenhouse on organic layer pellets and leftover vegetables, so the eggs are from hens kept indoors. Bought-in organic butter from De Weerribben, organic cheeses, RauwPower kefir from raw organic milk, and imported citrus and winter vegetables are also on the shelves, which we have not judged.
The barn shop (schuurverkoop) is open Monday and Tuesday from 13:00 to 18:00, Friday from 9:30 to 18:00 and Saturday from 9:30 to 16:00.
The crops are grown for resilience (weerbaar telen), so that the plants themselves stand up better to pests.
