Landwinkel Van Buuren Fruit
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Van Buuren Fruit is a fruit farm with a farm shop on the Dorpsstraat in Schoonrewoerd, selling fruit of its own growing all year: apples and pears through the winter, with strawberries, cherries, plums and berries added in summer.
The shop's list runs to more than fifteen apple varieties, stewing pears such as Gieser Wildeman and both Brederodes, and ten kinds of plum, though their website doesn't say which come from their own trees. Apple, pear, elderberry and strawberry juices are sold with nothing added, the jam is made in-house, and the honey comes from their own hives in the orchard. The orchard is run on the integrated system: natural enemies are used as far as possible, but synthetic fertiliser is spread and the trees are sprayed against scab and insects when observations show damage would pass a set threshold, so the fruit and juices aren't included here; what qualifies the shop is that honey. Potatoes, onions, vegetables and cheese are sold too, listed on their website among regional products, and the eggs are from barn-kept hens (scharreleieren), so they aren't included either.
The shop is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 to 12:30 and 13:00 to 18:00, and Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00.
Each August, shoots carrying predatory mites are laid into newly planted trees, so spider mites and rust mites are kept down without a spray.
