VINKENHORST FARM & MORE
- Cattle, sheep or goats graze on pasture in the grazing season
Vinkenhorst Farm & More is a mixed farm in Herwen, near Zevenaar, where a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle grazes alongside arable fields, walnut trees and old fruit trees.
The Angus herd has been on the farm since 2019 and grazes herb-rich grassland all year round; their website gives it as twenty animals, seven breeding cattle and thirteen young stock up to two and a half years old. On 40 hectares the farm also grows wheat, maize, field beans and barley, since 2022 partly to order for local brewers, bakers and restaurants, and herbs for an Amsterdam tea company. From about thirty fruit trees and bushes they make compote and syrup each year from cherries, apples, pears, plums, redcurrants and gooseberries, and the walnut trees planted in October 2019 are meant for nuts and walnut oil.
The beef is not sold to the public: the whole of every animal goes to two restaurants that work mainly with local produce, Hotel Villa Ruimzicht and Eet-Lokaal. Whether the walnuts, oil, compote or syrup can be bought at the farm, we couldn't confirm; tours can be arranged through the contact form on their website.
The walnut orchard is laid out as silvopasture, so the cows graze between the rows of trees.
