Pluktuinderij Aardbei en zo
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
- Zero waste
Pluktuinderij Aardbei & Zo is a pick-your-own garden for strawberries, vegetables, fruit and herbs behind the glasshouses of care nursery Zorgkwekerij Kostelijk on the Middenweg in Nederhorst den Berg, started in 2020 and run in 2026 by one grower with help from the nursery's staff and participants.
Everything is grown unsprayed, in the open ground or in a polytunnel. Strawberries of several varieties are cut, not picked, so the roots stay in the soil, with a first crop from around May and often a second later in summer. Through the season there are red currants, gooseberries, blackberries and figs, salads, rhubarb, courgettes, beans, beetroot, kohlrabi, pumpkins and squash, and in the polytunnel many kinds of tomato, sweet peppers, chillies and aubergines. Onions and garlic are lifted in early summer and sold loose or plaited, and there are herbs in pots and dahlias to cut.
The garden is open from the first ripe strawberries in May until early October, on Wednesday from 13:00 to 16:00 and on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, depending on weather and crops, so check their website before you go. You pay in the nursery's small shop, and bring your own containers and bags. In summer a stall by the road on the nursery yard sells vegetables when the garden is closed.
Visitors are welcome to help with weeding and harvesting.
