Landwinkel De Groene Ham
- Organic methods: no synthetic pesticides or fertiliser, not certified
Landwinkel De Groene Ham is a fruit farm with a farm shop just outside Vleuten, on the edge of Haarzuilens, where apples and pears have been grown since the 1950s, later joined by cherries, plums and redcurrants.
Apples and pears from their own orchard are on sale all year, and in summer cherries, plums and berries from the same trees are added. Most of the rest of the range is bought in from other producers: boerenkaas (farm cheese made from raw milk) from a cheese farm in Vinkeveen, milk, yoghurt and butter from a dairy farm in Arnhem, eggs from a poultry farmer in Vinkeveen, beef from a farmer-butcher in the Kromme Rijn area whose cattle are at least four years old at slaughter, chicken from Biologische Polderhoen, raised in the Flevopolder on organic feed and carrying three Beter Leven stars, and wild goose and fallow deer from hunters in the Dutch polders. How the animals behind the bought-in beef, dairy and eggs are kept isn't confirmed.
The shop is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 to 17:00, and each September the farm holds pick-your-own days in the orchard.
A beekeeper sets his hives among the fruit trees every spring to pollinate the blossom, and the shop sells honey from the orchard as well as from the wider region.
