Caetshage
- No synthetic pesticides or fertiliser (certified)
Caetshage is an organic city farm and care farm of about five hectares just outside the old centre of Culemborg, where a farming couple, a care farmer and up to nine daily workers from the care farm grow vegetables, herbs and flowers and keep sheep, hens and bees.
The farm is certified organic (SKAL); we found it in the register. They grow a wide range of vegetables, sow green manures over the beds before winter and let the sheep graze the brassica stalks and green manure on the fields. Lamb from their own sheep is sold in packages each year in late November and early December, slaughtered and butchered by Slagerij de Bruin; honey, beeswax and wool are also seasonal. The care farm kitchen makes jams, chutneys, soups and sauces from the harvest.
The farm shop is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00 and sells their own potatoes, vegetables and flowers, topped up with apples and pears from the Lindegaard and other organic suppliers, and KRUIM sourdough bread on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. A weekly vegetable box with five vegetables comes in three sizes and is collected from Wednesday to Saturday at the farm shop, or at BijBio Naturijn in Culemborg.
In December the farm rents out Christmas trees, which go back into the ground in January.
