honey · sources read 2026-10-11 · how we decide

Also called lindehoning, bloemenhoning.

In the Netherlands, summer honey is in season July to August, at its best in July and August. After the harvest, Dutch stores carry it until June. In November, Dutch summer honey comes from store or from under glass, not from the field.

The summer honey season

Summer honey comes from June to August, from lime trees, clover, bramble and garden flowers. It is darker and fuller than spring honey.

How to choose summer honey

Amber and runny when fresh; it may set over winter.

Nutrients in summer honey

Sugars with small amounts of enzymes, minerals and polyphenols; darker summer honeys carry more polyphenols than spring honey.

To get the most: Buy it raw from the beekeeper and do not cook it if the enzymes matter to you. Treat it as a sweetener, which it is.

Content per NEVO, the Dutch food composition database. This describes what the food contains, not what it does for you.
