windows to watch · sources read 2026-10-11 · how we decide

Also called vleespakket, pakket.

In the Netherlands, meat package rounds are in season September to December, at their best in October, November and December. After the harvest, Dutch stores carry them until August. Meat package rounds are in season now, in November, and this is the peak.

When it happens

Most farms in the guide slaughter a few times a year and sell the meat as mixed packages, to order. Autumn is the busiest round, when grass-finished cattle and the year's lambs are ready, and packages for Christmas sell out early.

What to look for

Farms announce slaughter dates on their website or by email. Order before the date, not after.

How it works

A 5 to 10 kilo package needs freezer space; a small chest freezer takes a quarter of a cow.

Meat package rounds, nothing wasted

Ask the farm to include bones, fat and offal in the package; many leave them out unless asked.

Who offers it

50 producers in The Field Guide sell meat package rounds, each checked against our inclusion criteria and listed by province.
